Project Details:

Critic | Gernot Reither
Location | Brooklyn, New York
Program | Community Center and Swimming Pool

This proposal calls for a community center located in the Gowanus Canal Between Park Slope and Red Hook Brooklyn, New York.  The program of the building is a mix Between mixed use, private office spaces, and public community centers.  The concept behind the design is two intersecting ramps that seem to breach from the water but are really supported by a moment frame atop four large piers.  The ramps are further articulated inside the structure, functioning as the main programmatic threshold.

Interior Ramp

The rendering above shows the interior ramp divided by the voids along the programmatic elements of the structure.  The ramp acts as a long spine from which every programmatic element is attached.
